What time are check-in and check-out?
Check-in: Check-in begins at 15:00 (3 PM). If you arrive earlier and a room is available, free luggage storage is provided at reception. Check-out: Check-out is at 11:00 (11 AM). Late check-out is available for a fee, subject to availability.
Is reception staffed 24/7?
Reception is guaranteed to be staffed 15:00–21:00 daily. We are typically available 07:00–22:30. An emergency phone is always available. Self-check-in is also available after hours using a code sent by email.
Is breakfast included?
Yes, breakfast is included in all hotel room bookings (Hotel Breiðdalsvík and Hotel Post). For apartments, breakfast can be added for 3,490 ISK per person per day. Breakfast is served 07:30–09:30 daily.
What about dinner and restaurants?
Our Bláfell restaurant serves dinner 18:00–21:00. Groups can book lunch in advance. Drinks, soup, and bread are always available. We accommodate dietary requirements (vegan, gluten-free, lactose-free, allergen-conscious) with advance notice to info@breiddalsvik.is.
How do I request special dietary requirements?

How many rooms are there and what types?
We have 37 rooms total. Is WiFi fast and reliable?
Yes, free high-speed WiFi is available in all rooms and common areas.
What is included in rooms?
All rooms include: Free high-speed WiFi Hairdryer Basic toiletries (soap, shampoo) Towels Cribs are available upon request. No extra beds are available.
Is smoking allowed?
This is a non-smoking hotel. Designated outdoor smoking areas are available.
What outdoor amenities are available?
Our outdoor area features: Dry sauna Hot tub Cold plunge pool All are included in your stay. Washing machine and dryer access is 2,500 ISK.

Do I need a car?
Yes, a car is highly recommended to explore East Iceland. We offer free parking for approximately 30 vehicles and 2 EV charging stations.
How do I get here without a car?
Airport: Egilsstaðir Airport is just over 1 hour away. We can arrange a taxi from the airport. Bus routes: Route 94: Höfn/Djúpivogur–Breiðdalsvík, Mon/Wed/Fri Route 92: Breiðdalsvík–Fáskrúðsfjörður–Reyðarfjörður (connects to Route 91 to Egilsstaðir). Some Route 92 trips are on-demand (call 892 0955, 6 hours notice). Route 92 is free. Strætó Schedule
What is your cancellation policy?
For direct bookings: Cancel 72 hours (3 days) before arrival for full refund. For OTA bookings (Booking.com, Expedia, etc.), the OTA’s cancellation policy applies.
What payment methods do you accept?
We accept: Visa Mastercard Cash We do NOT accept American Express or WeChat-linked cards.
Is prepayment required?
Prepayment requirements depend on the rate type selected. We’ll confirm at the time of booking.
Are pets allowed?
Unfortunately, pets are NOT allowed (we don’t have a permit for them yet).
What about children?
Free accommodation: Children 0–12 years are free with existing bedding (max 1 child per room). Meals: Children 3–12 years receive 50% discount on food.
What activities are available in East Iceland?
East Iceland offers amazing outdoor experiences: Hiking and trekking Birdwatching (Skrúður, Papey) Hot pots and natural springs Waterfalls (Flögufoss, Hengifoss) Horse riding Whale watching from Djúpivogur Boat trips and fjord exploration We partner with Travel East Iceland to arrange tours and activities. Northern lights are excellent Nov–Mar due to minimal light pollution. We maintain a wake-up call list for aurora enthusiasts. Recommended stay: Minimum 2 nights, ideal 3–4 nights.
Can you help arrange tours and activities?
Yes, we arrange tours and activities through our partnership with Travel East Iceland. Contact reception for details and bookings.
When can I see the Northern Lights?
Northern lights are best visible from November to March. East Iceland has minimal light pollution, making it excellent for aurora viewing. We maintain a wake-up call list for guests interested in photographing or viewing the lights.
Can we host weddings or events?
Yes! We host weddings, corporate events, and conferences. Email info@breiddalsvik.is to discuss options and book your event.
Are rooms wheelchair accessible?
Yes, we have 2 wheelchair-accessible rooms: 1 Standard Double/Twin in the main building 1 Family room (sleeps 5) in Hotel Post by Meleyri
Can you store luggage before check-in or after check-out?
Yes, free luggage storage is available at reception before check-in and after check-out.
Is there a bar? What does it serve?
Yes, our bar is located in the Bláfell restaurant. We serve Icelandic and international drinks, beers, wines, and various beverages.
