The Beljandi Waterfall
Not far from the town of Brekkuborg is the Beljandi waterfall in the Breiðdalsá River. There are actually two waterfalls, the outer and inner, and they are covered with the same name. This is a very beautiful area and a great place for outdoor activities.

Breiðdalur volcano
Breiðdalur volcano is an ancient central volcano in Breiðdalur and Berufirður, the site of extensive research by the English geologist Georges D.L. Walker, along with others of its kind in East Iceland. This volcano is adorned with large rhyolite intrusions with majestic and distinctive peaks, Flögutindur in Breiðdalur, Smátindur, Röndólfur, Slötti and Stöng. The southern slopes of Breiðdalur are particularly colorful and the rock layers are irregular, with large pyroclastic formations.

Breiðdalsá

Breiðdalsá is a very beautiful 6 – 8 rod salmon fishing river about 615 km from Reykjavík and about 80 km from Egisstaðir.

The river originates in the mountains where streams gather and is then created where the Tinnudalsá, Suðurdalssá, and Norðurdalsá rivers merge, and then flows into the sea at Breiðdalsvík. The surroundings of Breiðdalsá are spectacular and it is said that people fish in no other river as beautiful as Breiðdalsá.

Jórvík Forest
Jórvík in Breiðdalur is a deserted farm with large scrublands. About 600 ha are owned by the Forest Service, but the forest was protected in 1960. Here is one of the few places where blue spruce can be found in the country, and the tallest trees are about 4 m. The land is otherwise mostly covered with natural birch scrub, but partly with planted forest. The area is open to the public and there is a marked hiking trail from Jórvík to Norðurdalur.

Flögufoss Waterfall

Flagufoss Waterfall
A short hike from the main road in Breiðdalsvík reveals the majestic waterfall of Flögufoss. Here, the Flöguá River flows down spectacular cliffs in one fell swoop, over 60 meters (197 feet) high.
